36 Top Sound Effects Web Sites
For When You Need A THWACK! Or ...

By Dave Courvoisier
Voice Actor & TV News Anchor

The other day I had need of a "busy street scene crowd background sound," and went searching.

Bingo!

And it occurred to me that a list of the web sites I found may be helpful for those needing a )))THWACK((( or a HONK or the sound of a mosquito in your ear.

Below, then, an incomplete but irreplaceable list of some of the top royalty-free sound effects sites out there. I'm not sayin' they're free - although some are - but they do seem to get a lot of traffic.

This is a companion to another list I compiled, 50+ Sources For Royalty-Free Music.

Please COMMENT below and/or send me the names and a link to YOUR favorite sound-effects site, which I may have missed, and I'll add it to the list.

Kevin Macleod has a new site with free, public domain music that's pretty nice too. It's FreePD.com if anyone is interested.

Thanks Dave ...That's super useful. I had only found, and used, 4 on that list. My personal favourite? Freesound.org ,where effects are produced by hundreds of individuals for FREE Royalty-free use!

Well done, Dave! I only knew a few of these.

Also add to your list D.A.W.N. Music. I use their royalty-free music, drawn from several libraries, but they also have sound effects you can get a la carte.
