Amid The Holiday Bustle, FOCUS To Get
More Done And Feel Less Stressed
November 25, 2015

By Christi Bowen
Voice Actor

The busiest time of year ... the holiday season.  And we forget to enjoy it because there is so much to do!

We turn to multitasking in the belief the we can get more done.

But guess what? You're wrong.

It's a proven fact that the human brain is NOT capable of multitasking. The prefrontal cortex can only perform one complex task at a time.

Sure, we can listen to music while working or fold laundry and hold a conversation. But driving or writing or active listening ... nope, those take all of our focus.

My gift to you this holiday season is the knowledge that you will get more done and feel less stressed when you FOCUS ON ONE TASK AT A TIME.

Here are some tips:
  • Go offline when you need to focus on a project
  • Turn off electronics - don't be a slave to the next message, Tweet or update
  • Pay attention to those around you. Actively listen to what they are saying. It helps with recall in the future so you don't spend more time trying to remember what they said
  • Group your like actions together so you get more accomplished
  • Slow down and take your time
Show your colleagues, friends, family - and yourself - how thankful you are by giving them your FOCUS.  It's the best gift you can give or receive.
Christi Bowen has over 20 years experience in voice over and video production. She graduated from the University of Florida where she fell in love with writing, voicing and producing local radio spots. Her course shifted to film and TV production for a number of years, including working on Hollywood features. But voice overs were always Christi's true love. Getting back into full time voice work in 2011, Christi has developed a roster of clients all over the world and on many types of projects - from commercials and corporate narrations to e-learning modules and phone systems.
