From 10 am - 3 pm PST.
Patrick Fraley, with Scott Brick and Deb Doetzer / Chicago
Join three VO masters for a
day and learn the only dialect system created specifically for voice over. Host
Patrick Fraley, working with Scott Brick and Deb Doetzer, will teach you to narrate audiobooks with extended
recording time using German, Russian, British, Irish, and New York accents.
Their system uses rapid critical accuracy with essential authenticity so you
can perform dialects in minutes in a pinch. Deb Doetzer works in animation,
interactive games, toys, narration, and commercials, and teaches voice over and
performance skills at the Second City Training Center, Acting Studio Chicago,
and DePaul University. Scott Brick has recorded more than 750 audiobooks using
dialects and accents in most of them. Pat Fraley has taught and performed dialects
his entire career; his 43-dialect audiobook performance of "The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn” earned him rave reviews. Recordings from the day may be used
on your demo.
Audio Publishers Association / McCormick Place, Chicago
Considered to be the
premier event in the audiobook industry, the Audio Publishers Association's Annual Conference (APAC) comes this year to McCormick Place in Chicago. The conference, held in conjunction with
Book Expo America, is designed to address industry trends and allow industry
leaders to share ideas and network with others. APAC will offer a Business
Track (formerly the Publisher Track) and a Performance Track (formerly the
Narrator Track). Keynote speaker is Yoel Flohr, founder of Ventuation, a
boutique strategy consulting company working with select start-ups and corporations in
the digital media space.
Audio Publishers Association / Adler Planetarium, Chicago
Awards for this year’s best audiobooks
and best narrators in the voice over industry will be presented during the 2016
Audies Gala, sponsored by the Audio Publishers Association, at the
Adler Planetarium in Chicago. Four audiobooks are finalists
in the coveted competition for Best Audiobook of the Year. Awards will also be
presented in 25 additional audiobook categories, as well as 2016’s new
categories of Excellence in Design, Marketing, and Production. The black-tie
optional festivities will be hosted by award-winning comedian, author and
commentator Paula Poundstone.
If you are an intermediate or advanced voice over student,
working part-time or full-time with a VO demo already done or ready to record,
this Sunday series of five 3-hour online classes will provide a boost to your career. Award-winning director Marc
Cashman can teach you to analyze any script in minutes, direct yourself
effectively, determine appropriate delivery for any copy, and perform consistently
on every take. To be eligible to participate, you need to have a microphone or
headset and audition-quality recording space. At the end of the course,
you’ll receive a VO Report Card with an assessment of your current voice acting
skills. Limited to 8 students; fee payable in three installments.
