Auditions: Online & 'Real World' - Learn To
Win More At Bettye Zoller Workshop Nov. 7
Oct. 21, 2009

The online audition: You've downloaded the script and the specs ... now what?

"Don't do anything to hurt yourself," warns Bettye Zoller, the award-winning voice talent, producer and trainer.

Learn to read "between the lines" about what each job truly requires, and to ask the right questions before responding with a bid, she says.

That advice and "all kinds of inside information" will be shared by Zoller at her all-day workshop, Audition Techniques for the Internet & the Real World on Nov. 7 in Dallas.

Designed to help voice actors win more auditions, the event will be packed with case histories - what to do, and what to avoid.

"And then we'll do mock auditions," says Zoller, who trains voice actors nationwide and at her VoicesVoices recording and training studio in Dallas.

WHAT CAN GO WRONG?

In advance of the workshop, Zoller shares these tips ...

A project received as an online audition might become more time-consuming than you think, she explains. For instance:
  • Will they want everything in a separate WAV file?
  • Will they want music under the voice?
  • The book is how many pages long?
"Those will all take extra time. Ask the right questions. See the entire script before you bid on it!" says Zoller.

'REAL WORLD' ETIQUETTE

Quicksand also lurks in the so-called "real world" - or in-person - auditions, for voice actors who are unaware of the rules of etiquette with casting directors and agents.

For instance, says Zoller, the waiting room is not a party place. "They want you to shut up and wait," she says. And to "bring appropriate materials."

The workshop will cover this, plus teach how to:
  • interpret copy from a psychological standpoint to bring out the inner meanings, and
  • better understand a voice seeker or producer's needs and wants for a voice attitude or approach.
WORKSHOP SPECS

The full-day workshop tuition of $275 includes breakfast, a catered lunch, and many take-home materials.

A 10% discount is offered to members of AFTRA, SAG, Reading Radio Resource, TAFTP, and S.T.A.G.E.

Note: On Dec. 5 in Dallas, Zoller presents Newcomers Voice Over Day, a workshop for people considering a voice-over career, covering the nuts and bolts of the business.

"I'm keeping this especially low priced - just $150 for the entire day," says Zoller.
