Voice talent in the Connecticut / Massachusetts / Rhode Island area are enjoying training by top coaches, as Hartford, CT lands on the map as a voice-over workshop capitol.
Workshops there in the near future include:
Mar. 28: Marc Cashman (right photo), Are You Ready For Your VO Demo? and Apr. 18-19: MJ Lallo (left photo), The Totally Fun Animation & Commercial Combo Seminar.
The sessions will be held at Doug Clark’s Gallery Recording Studio, 686 Tolland Street, in East Hartford. Click on the names above for event details. FOLLOW HOLLYWOOD
It’s all thanks to a local voice actor who last year wanted more training, so invited coaches to bring their popular workshops to the Northeast.
Also last year, major film studios were shooting movies in many Connecticut locations.
“I thought, since Hollywood is here, why not start bringing some of the big names in voice-over here as well,” says Anthony Piselli, the voice actor and owner of A Voice For You.
“So I made a few phone calls and started to speak with Jim Alburger and Penny Abshire, who encouraged me to follow through with this idea,” Piselli says.
“Then I contacted others, and I tell you, these folks have the biggest hearts in the industry!”
THEN WHAT HAPPENED?
Piselli explains an exciting first year of workshops …
“My wife Janet and I cut our teeth presenting Bob Bergen’s Character Animation Workshop in May. We white knuckled all the way through workshop day, but Bob made it all worthwhile! I adopted him as my Big Brother – LOL.
“Then Pat Fraley came out in June and did two one-day workshops. He’s the consummate professional and his workshop was a life changer for me. I told him I no longer want to be a cowboy when I grow up - I want to be Pat Fraley.
"And finally, in October, we hosted Jim Alburger and Penny Abshire for their three-day intensive workshop. Talk about great workshops - three days didn’t seem to be enough. They were awesome.”
HARTFORD GOOD LOCATION
Piselli adds that the presenters are enthusiastic about teaching in Hartford.
“They all said these were some of the best students that they have taught, and all look forward to returning,” he says.
“Hartford is a happening place. It’s convenient to Bradley International Airport, there is plenty of lodging, and it is in the middle of the prettiest countryside on the Eastern Seaboard.”
